Grandparents Day In The USA

Happy Grandparents Day to all you grandparents in the USA. This is the 30th Anniversary of National Grandparents Day.

According to Wikipedia, “In 1978, Congress passed legislation proclaiming the first Sunday after Labour Day as National Grandparents Day and then-President Jimmy Carter signed the proclamation. The statute cites the day’s purpose as:
“… to honour grandparents, to give grandparents an opportunity to show love for their children’s children, and to help children become aware of strength, information, and guidance older people can offer.”

Here in the UK, National Grandparents’ Day 2008 takes place on Sunday 5th October so we will have to wait a few weeks until we celebrate. It has only been going for 18 years in this country and was introduced by Age
Concern
in 1990.
