Grandparent’s Day 2008

Today is Grandparents’ Day here in the UK. Age Concern and the Government are calling on the public to recognise the role of grandparents in families and communities across the country. Last year, thousands of cards and bunches of flowers were given by families to say thanks to the UK’s 13 million grandparents.

I’m not sure if it will really take off in this country the way it has in the US. I certainly didn’t notice a lot of “Grandparents’ Day” cards and flowers in the shops. A lot of people probably think that it’s just a gimmick for the florists and card sellers to cash in on. I personally think that celebrating grandparents is a great thing, but I am biased having experienced “papahood” for myself. My own “Grandparents Day” was last month on the 8th of September, Gracie’s birthday, that’s when I first became a grandparent.

I don’t know whether I, or any of you who are reading this will recieve a card today but let me congratulate all you grandparents out there.

Papahood is awesome!
